Inspiratif : Difference

ALL OR NOTHING

An “all or nothing” approach too often gets us nothing. The attitude of “I’m going to be the best on the team or I won’t even play” is self defeating. Success is achieved by degrees. Rarely is it possible to start at the top.

Certainly it is commendable and very worthwhile to aim for the very best. You won’t get there unless you go for it. But you won’t get there immediately either. In order to reach first place, you must spend some time in fifth, fourth, third and second places. Those who quit just because they came in third instead of first, never make it to the top.

The same principle applies whether you’re in a competitive undertaking or not. The reality of any endeavor is that you very likely won’t get it perfect. But so what? You’re achieving, you’re growing, you’re improving -- and those are what count. Just because you can’t have it all, is no reason to settle for nothing.

A BIG DIFFERENCE

Leaders are ordinary people who have decided to use a slightly larger fraction of their potential than is normally the case. Every success is just a discrete number of incremental steps away from failure. The difference between grand achievement and mediocrity is one of degrees.

The extra effort you make in the next five minutes could ultimately mean the difference between moving forward and falling back. It could transform what would have been a loss into a profit. It could change what would have been a failure into a success.

Achievements are built. They do not simply appear. As such, each effort is layered on top of the efforts which went before it. And as such, the value of each extra effort is intensely magnified and leveraged.

The extra efforts you make today have the power to significantly change your life, your work, your business, your relationships, your world. Doing a little more does not take a lot out of you, yet it can bring to you so very, very much. When you’ve done what needs to be done, then give it a little extra effort. That little bit will indeed make a big difference.

YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES

You have what it takes to live life at its best. You have what it takes to achieve genuine and lasting excellence.

Your current situation, whatever it may be, is a perfectly workable starting point. You have what it takes to move positively forward in the direction of your own choosing.

Success and fulfillment, excellence and achievement are not mere matters of luck. Rather, they flow directly from your choices.

And you have what it takes to choose the path that will take you to your most treasured dreams. It is a path that is chosen not once, but over and over again in each moment, each thought, each action and each decision.

You have what it takes to be focused, disciplined, purposeful and effective. For you can think and act, learn and adapt, work and build toward any goal you choose to follow.

You have what it takes to do the things that must be done to get you where you most want to go. Choose to make use of your astounding abilities now, and again and again as each day goes by.

IN CONTROL

Without a knowledgeable pilot, the fastest, most powerful aircraft is of little use. To get an aircraft safely to its destination requires skilled control. That’s where the pilot comes in.

In the same way, without discipline and control, even the most promising life is doomed to go nowhere. You could have money, resources, knowledge, skills, and influential friends, and yet if you fail to exercise control over your thoughts and actions, all that great potential will go to waste.
The thing is, it’s really not that difficult to control your life. You’re the person inside your body, the person who pulls all the strings. You definitely have the ability to think the thoughts you decide to think and to take the actions you decide to take.

If you have a compelling enough reason, you can exercise complete control over your own thoughts and actions. So find a compelling reason! If there’s something you’ve decided to achieve, spend the time and effort to understand, in a personally meaningful way, why you’re doing it. Find a reason. Take control. And you’ll find yourself flying straight toward where you want to be.
